Time to start digging and decorating!
After taking on board all the design submissions, comments and even emails we have received from the local community, Freeling Street Pocket Park is coming together.
We are now entering the digging and decorating phase of the project, and we’d love people from the area to get involved in the next activities to turn Freeling Street into a green space.

What is Cultivating Cally?
A community project to turn the grey tarmac of Freeling Street into a green oasis for all to enjoy
Cultivating Cally began at the Cally Festival in 2019, when Freeling Street was transformed for the day into a pop up pocket park. Thanks to funding from the GLAs’ Greener City Fund, we can now make the pop up a permanent feature of the Cally AND green the walkways to it. Now it just needs you, the Cally Community, to tell us what it should look like and help create this brand new green space. Learn More
Cultivate your Cally
Transform the Cally with Greenery
Freeling Street is just the start! We want to secure extra funding to create a new 350 metre greenway across Caledonian Road, along Bridgeman Road and the Bemerton Estate Walk. Share your ideas for how to green the streets that connect the new park to both Thornhill Square and Bingfield Park. Share your ideas
Design Freeling Street’s Pocket Park
Help create the new park using an interactive tool to virtually transform Freeling Street
How would you design the pocket park?
You can turn the tarmac into a flowerbed, plant a tree, add cycle docks, lay paths and drop in planters.
Send us your ideas for the layout, planting and furniture and in the comments box you can tell us the details, such as the type of plants and trees. We’ll display the best ones here and on our social media.
